Quilting
Classes...
Adult
Children
Another
project that has proven to be very enjoyable and rewarding is
teaching quilting to the community. The Children's Class meets
on Mondays immediately after school. We currently have 13 bright
eyed eager beavers enrolled in this class ranging in ages 5 through
15. It is so amazing to watch those little hands learn to hand
piece. Once they learn hand piecing and quilting, we then teach
them how to use the sewing machine. They get very excited when
they get to move on to the machine.
The
Adult Class has been meeting twice a month, but have asked if
they can meet more often. There are 18 enrolled in this class.
They are making a small sampler wall hanging which will give them
skills required to make a large quilt. Included in their lessons
are hand piecing and hand quilting along with needle turn appliquéing;
also, choosing fabric/colors, rotary cutting, and binding. It
is very rewarding to know that we have all these new quilters
especially those starting out so young.
We
take a break from the classes during the summer to allow more
time to prepare for the Quilt Show on Labor Day weekend.
